WestJet has dropped the price of a few of their August flights from St. John's to Portland, Oregon down to between $337 and $492 CAD roundtrip including taxes. The flights have 1 stop each way in Calgary. I consider $337 roundtrip to be WestJet's clickbait (CB) price because it doesn't include checked luggage or carry-on. Not exactly a realistic way to travel. $492 roundtrip is the more realistic price because at least it includes carry-on. But those with the WestJet World Elite credit card can take advantage of the clickbait price as it includes free checked luggage.

The airlines make a lot of their actual profits from credit cards these days, so they keep widening the gap between 'with luggage' and 'without luggage' prices to push people into getting their credit cards.

The 'with luggage' price is still a great deal, as it usually costs a minimum of $800-something roundtrip to fly between YYT and Portland with luggage.

The flights have 2 stops each way (Edmonton/Calgary on the way there, and Calgary/Toronto on the way home). I consider $311 roundtrip to be WestJet's clickbait (CB) price because it doesn't include checked luggage or carry-on. Not exactly a realistic way to travel. $463 roundtrip is the more realistic price because at least it includes carry-on. But those with the WestJet World Elite credit card can take advantage of the clickbait price as it includes free checked luggage.
